About the destination

Burigi-Chato was upgraded to national-park status in 2019, combining the former Burigi, Biharamulo, Kimisi and Ibanda game reserves into a single 4,707 km² wilderness in north-western Tanzania. Infrastructure is still developing — which is exactly the appeal.

Why visit

Real off-the-beaten-track Tanzania. You can spend a full day on game drive without seeing another vehicle. Elephants, giraffes, eland, roan antelope and hippos in Lake Burigi — the antithesis of the busy northern circuit.
