About the destination
Tanzania's hidden west. Burigi-Chato National Park (gazetted in 2019) is the country's fourth-largest park — and one of its emptiest. Add the Haya kingdoms around Bukoba and you have a region almost no tourists ever reach.
Why visit
If you've already done the Serengeti and want something genuinely off-grid: real wilderness without another safari vehicle in sight, plus living culture you can taste, see and hear.
Wildlife & landscape
- Elephant, giraffe, eland & roan antelope
- Hippo and crocodile in Lake Burigi
- 350+ bird species
- Sitatunga in the swamps
